Foundation Course

Being a Bahá'í means recognising the Station of Bahá'u'lláh and obeying His teachings. Recognition is through understanding of His Faith, and is the result of spiritual growth stimulated by His Writings. Obedience, which demands commitment and sacrifice, requires a deep love for Bahá'u'lláh and an understanding of the fundamentals and principles of His Faith.

This course assists one to initiate and enhance the two processes of recognition and obedience. Its topics include. It is designed for those interested in bettering their relationship with Bahá'u'lláh and serving His Cause. It is particularly appropriate for those who:

  • have just declared their belief in Bahá'u'lláh and joined the Bahá'í community.
  • have been a Bahá'í for some time but wish to systematically increase their understanding of the Faith.
  • have been to other Bahá'í classes but now wish to refresh their knowledge and recharge themselves spiritually.

Course Structure
The course consists of five modules and is designed for one year of study. The students are expected to spend at least three hours a week on the course to satisfy all the course requirements. It is possible to enrol only in one or more modules.

The course can be used in a study circle or as a distance learning individual program. The YBCL provides a full study plan and a mentor for each student. The mentors will be in contact with the students and assist them in their work. The students are expected to complete the assignments in the distance learning material and return them by the due date. The assignments are read and assessed by the mentors and returned to students.

Course Modules

Module 1: Spiritual Springtime
This module explains the role of the Manifestations of God as Divine educators and illustrates the need humanity has for religion. Then the significance of Bahá'u'lláh's Revelation as a new spiritual springtime is described.

Module 2: Revelation of God for this age
This module provides an overview of the birth of the Bahá'í Faith and the Ministry of its central figures. In particular, the events of the lives of the Báb, Bahá'u'lláh and 'Abdu'l-Bahá are highlighted and their stations are explained.

Module 4- A New Race of Human
According to the Guardian "the supreme and distinguishing function" of the Revelation of Bahá'u'lláh is "none other than the calling into being of a new race of men." This module is an attempt to understand the nature and process of being such a new race. In this context, the spiritual development of the individual is studied.
Module 3: The Bahá'í Administrative Order
The source, structure and components of the Bahá'í Administrative Order are explained in this module. The role of the individual to elect the administration and serve on it is highlighted. The use of Bahá'í consultation as the main mechanism for decision making is described.

Module 5-From Words to Deeds
The focus of this module is on the spiritual results that each Bahá'í should actively aim to achieve in their personal quest for spiritual transformation. In addition, the module explores how the individual can help to build a community and eventually contribute to the advancement of the process of entry by troops.

You can apply for the course online or off-line. When applying off-line, you need to print the application form, fill it up and send it to the Programs Administrator by mail or fax. If you pay your fee by a cheque, it needs to be in Australian Dollars and payable to Yerrinbool  Bahá’í Centre of Learning. To enroll online, fill out the online application form.
