KidZ 4 Peace Camp

12-14  April  2013

The global events and human experience over the past 50 years have given the quest for peace a new urgency especially for the sake of our children and future generations. It is now widely acknowledged that peace is not just the absence of war but is a holistic concept requiring harmony at all levels of human endeavour. The Kidz 4 Peace Camp is an attempt to nurture attitudes, values and human qualities which will help realize this concept in children.

This camp uses creative arts as a medium for reaching new levels of understanding. Each human is viewed as ""a mine rich in gems of inestimable value"". These gems are understood to be the virtues within us, which when awakened and practised become an important way we can each help to build a peaceful world. In this programme children are equipped with skills to become active global citizens.

Intended Outcomes

  • Children experience their own power and capacity to perform good actions.
  • Children identify as peacemakers, understanding that their actions can contribute to making a peaceful world.
  • Children develop attitudes and values which help them to build strong relationships with other people.
  • Showing virtues in action are understood as a way everyone can help build peace in the world. The creative arts then become a medium to further explore the idealism of the children. This positive experience becomes one of discovery which helps empower the children as they understand how they can effect change in the world. A virtue ranger or an event leader is engaged in spotting and acknowledging virtues the children demonstrate throughout the programme.
Children develop skills in critical, creative and reflective thinking.
  • Children develop skills for consultation and communication.
  • Children willingly apply the virtues to their actions at home, at school, in the community and in the world.
  • Children aspire to be servants of humanity and plan and implement their own service projects.

Camp Structure

Camp runs over a weekend at YBCL Campus. It starts Friday evening and concludes on Sunday around lunch time. The program of the camp is designed for children of 8-11 years old.
